Tandahimba DC urged the Council to set strategies to provide peace education for the youth

The Tandahimba, District Commissioner (DC) in Mtwara Region, Colonel Patrick Sawala, has probed the District Council to put in place strategies to provide Peace education and responsibility to all young people in order to bring about sustainable development and reduce incidences of Violence and eay signs of Violence Extremism.
Speaking during the opening session of the Peace Building awareness to the Local Government Officials organized by the Global Peace Foundation Tanzania (GPF), which was held in Tandahimba for the aim of building the capacity of local government authorities leaders on the engagement of youth in building and strengthening peace in the peripheral wards especy those bordering the neighboring country of Mozambique.

He has also instructed all the leaders who participated in the workshop, to be an example of responsibility, to work hard so that many young people around them can learn from them.
"After this workshop, I would like to be given the action plan of the Ditrict council under the Department of Community Development, how will all the leaders who have attended here will implement the knowledge they received in this workshop. 

This workshop should not end here, we want to see many young people in the villages and suburbs receiving training like this. We here at the Council should put our strategies fully in place, let's really see that there is a quick positive changes." said Colonel Sawala

Colonel Sawala added that: "youth must be educated, have new knowledge, be able to analyze the bad and the good, especially when someone comes who wants to disturb the peace. Education on patriotism is very much needed, our GPF stakeholders have come, we must stick together, I hope this education will bring about positive changes."
Colonel Sawala stressed that the government is close to all stakeholders who continue the government's efforts to build the capacity of young people so that they become patriots and good citizens, and to ensure that the education provided reaches more groups of young people in order to completely eradicate acts of breach of peace at all levels.

On his part, Joseph Malekela, the Coordinator of the project from Global Peace Foundation Tanzania, speaking on behalf of the Country Director of the Global Peace Foundation, Mrs. Martha Ng'hambi said that, the vijana na Amani project which influences youth engagement and participation in peace building for resilient communities, is being implemented in collaboration with the Prime Minister's Office (Labour, Youth, employment and People with Disabilities), Tanzania Scout Association (TSA), Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation (MNF), United Nations Youth Organization (YUNA), and Global Religions for Children Foundation (GRCF) in  three southern regions of the country which are Lindi, Mtwara and Ruvuma, under the funding of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). So far, the project has already reached to 100 Local Government Authorities leaders, 40 religious leaders, 20 cultural leaders, 20 parents, 20 caregivers, 100 youth representatives, 800 students In primary and secondary schools as well s 200 college students.
