The Contractors from Chicco companies who was constructing Ngo’mbe River Bridge and Nyanza Road work who construct the Banana-Kitunda, arrested yesterday in a command of Daresalaam governor, Mr. Pau Makonda because of over timely completion of the projects, now have been released.

The contractors suffered the embarrassing fate following several warnings from Mr Makonda over timely completion of the projects.

The governor assured the fullhabarionline that the contractors have been released and demand them to go direct to the site to complete the projects.

“We released them after meeting the bail requirements, and we told them to go direct to the field, we want the projects to be completed on time so that our citizen get served, they assured us that they will fast truck the projects and by beginning they shall increase the number of employees and equipment so that work is done within 10 month and not 18 month mentioned earlier” Makonda said

On October 24, 2019 Regional commissioner Makonda issued an order to capture two contractors who were said their pace of completing the projects were unsatisfactory.

Elaborating the scenario of arresting contractors, the executive secretary of Dar es Salaam City, Mr Abubakar Kunenge, told reporters that the contractors had already been paid, but construction was going at a snail’s pace.

He said, Mr Makonda had instructed the contractors to complete the projects before yesterday, vowing to lock them up should they fail to observe the deadline.

“Nyanza has already received Sh4.8 billion out of the Sh32 billion, but his reasons for delaying the project do not hold water,” he said.

Speaking on the construction of the Ng’ombe River bridge, Mr Kunenge said the contractor had already received more than Sh800 million, but nothing is going on at the site.

“This action should serve as a good lesson for other contractors who delay projects,” he said.
